When Google Desktop search came out, promising that we could search our computers with Google’s super efficient search algorithms, I was extremely excited. I could search all my files on all my Windows boxes (I still used Windows back then) from my web browser, fantastic news!
It turns out that you can’t actually do a remote search, it only hosts the search engine on your loopback. So to work around this I wrote a little Python script which acts as a proxy and serves up your Google Desktop search over the network and links to the files via UNC paths (which afaik only work in Internet Explorer, oh how times have changed!)
You can snag the script here in svn, but I don’t know why you’d ever need that.
